This paper presents a method how to simulate overhead DC network transmission losses that are estimated by a variable location of an electric vehicle regarding to an invariable location of a traction substation. Electric public transport infrastructure is one of the major electrical energy consumers. Electrical energy amount which is acquired due to overhead line voltage drop and current flowing through wires is dissipated in heat and considered as energy losses. The distance between an electric vehicle and a substation is a relevant aspect that influences the amount of energy losses. Overhead DC network and trolleybus system virtual Matlab/Simulink model including a resistor subsystem for transmission loss imitation was developed. Presented energetic parameter characteristics were acquired from the chosen trolleybus Skoda 24Tr Irisbus motion simulations.
