In the contemporary society every child has the right to equal quality education, as it is stipulated by many international and Latvian normative documents. Teaching children of many nationalities with various cultural background at one educational institution means providing education that promotes self-esteem, awareness of other cultures, broadening their horizons and building tolerance and understanding of the similarities and differences of different cultures, characterized by various world views, values, ideals and attitudes, as well as improving communication skills between learners of different national origin belonging to different ethnic groups. In order to ensure high quality education for all, it is necessary to create an education system within which all students can fully realize their learning ability and to become socially conscious and active people on the local, national and global scale. Tolerance is one of the conditions to ensure successful operation of pre-school education. The children, who hasve a friendly relationships with different types of people, are tolerant. They do not distinguish between people by nationality, mannersof dress, they do not endure, but generally recognize and accept the opinions of the surrounding persons. Tolerance as a quality is complex, it should be considered in the context of empathy (the ability to empathize, to express their thoughts). A child evaluates and analyzes, the child’s tolerance is manifested in actions and behavior.
