Nowadays the external and internal migration is very popular among the inhabitants of Latvia. They are searching for better job opportunities, higher salary, better social guarranties and life conditions. According to Z. Krišjāne and A. Bauls mobility is more characteristic for a young generation who have acquired a modern education, competences and skills. Young people are more tended to emmigrate from the country (Krišjāne, Bauls 2007). Therefore the aim of the research was to identify the opinion of young people – students of Riga Technical University (RTU) about the migration problems and solutions in the context of Latvia. The main tasks of the research was to research the external migration in the context of Latvia identifying the reasons of migration and giving solutions how to decrease it. The main conclusions of the research are the following: 1) nowadays external migration is a topical and very important question in the political, economical and social life of every country, 2) the most important reason for external migration is a higher life quality abroad – better job and study possibilities and social guarranties, 3) the economical and political stability of the country, people’s security for the future and increase of their life quality are the main preconditions for the decrease of external migration.
