Thermal Instability of Incompressible Fluids

The talk is devoted to the analysis of convective instability of incompressible fluids under the Boussinesq approximation. The governing equations and basic physical assumptions are discussed first. The results related to the instability of a state of mechanical equilibrium are reported next. Instability of a fluid motion in vertical channels of planar and circular cross-section is analyzed using methods of linear stability theory. Numerical methods for the solution of such problems are discussed.
