In winter weather dictates the conditions on roads, walkways, frozen water tanks etc., thus the knowledge of safe movement over ice is crucial to reduce the number of accidents related to icing. Ice – object interaction is extremely complicated system due to many influencing factors. One side is the object which interferes with ice, another – the ice itself which is mostly dependent on ambient conditions. There is an information about the influence of different conditions on slip properties between ice and object, but most of the studies are performed in laboratories maintaining stable conditions and mostly only one parameter is taken into account to describe ice [1–3]. This is not the situation in real life when conditions change all the time. The objective of this work was to investigate the influence of the weather conditions on slip properties between steel and ice using on-field experimental method. Three parameters – ice temperature, air temperature and relative humidity (RH) were measured and connection between each variable and sliding velocity was analysed.
