The memories of author and nearest working colleagues about Vilnis Eglajs – the distinguished Latvian scientist who leave indelible track in the fields of design of experiments, metamodeling and optimization are shown in this paper. A brief description of V. Eglajs scientific achievements, political activities and human qualities are characterized. At the end, significance of scientific contribution of Vilnis Eglajs are emphasized.
