For our studies the Infrared-spectroscopy (FT-IR) was adapted since analysis of the IR spectra has given important indications on the microstructural evolution with temperature and on influence of processing parameters. Some detailed IR studies have been reported on the different stages of sol–gel processing of silica glasses, in particular on the oligomeric species formed during the hydrolysis-polycondensation of TEOS
