This paper discusses the possibility to perform virtual motion simulations of a trolleybus connected to an overhead DC contact line and equipped with an energy storage system by applying an analytical calculation of power transmission losses. Three variants of energy storage systems were inspected: mobile onboard; stationary in the substation; stationary located at the other end of the contact line. For each of the variants, simulations were also performed with a model containing a subsystem of transmission loss imitating resistors. Simulation result diagrams of both models almost overlapped thus confirming the accuracy of the described idea.
