Uniform Principles for Monitoring Frequency And Balancing in the Baltic Electricity System have been Developed
2020
Gatis Junghāns, M. Kalniņš

In preparation for connecting the electricity systems of the Baltic States for synchronous work with the system of the continental Europe, the transmission system operators of the three Baltic States — Litgrid, AST and Elering — have developed common principles for monitoring the frequency and electricity balance in the Baltic States’ energy system, as well as a concept for implementing a regional balancing capacity market in the Baltic States. The new market will allow transmission system operators to purchase the necessary backup systems for ensuring stable operation, and will open up new business opportunities for the participants of the electricity market.
