The increased usage of natural gas for power generation in Europe due to raising carbon prices and developments of intermittent renewable energy has led to a stronger intertie between gas and power grids. With this the resilience of the total energy system is quantified by the ability of each type of grid infrastructure to withstand disturbances in the other ones. The main goal of the paper is to study the resilience of the Baltic energy system in the case of a major disturbance in the natural gas transmission grid. A case study of a disturbance is performed, response of the power grid is studied and the resilience of the energy system is assessed. The results can be used in the planning activities of Baltic power grid operators.
