Realization of the First Low Temperature Centralized Heat Supply System in Latvia

Realization of the first low temperature centralized heat supply system in Latvia is discussed in this article. Belava is small village located in Gulbene municipality in Latvia with a population of 1546 inhabitants. The former district heating system in Belava parish of Gulbene municipality has been a 3rd generation DH distribution network with and old wood logs boiler. The pilot measure's aim in the Belava parish of Gulbene municipality is focused on the renewal of a former 3rd generation DH distribution network and old wood logs boiler. Pilot measure includes the development of a novel LTDH system including a new boiler house with pellet boiler. Pilot measure includes the development of a novel LTDH system including a new boiler house with pellet boiler, the change of the distribution grid’s pipes, and the installation of a remote data reader system to provide continuous monitoring of the system. Within the pilot a smart metering system within existing municipal buildings has been also installed to en sure stable heat consumption and thus the costs. The smart metering system allows municipality to analyze their consumption and compare different heat supply systems' efficiency.
