The objective of this study is to assess the influence of vacuum, pressure and the spark generation on the contribution towards densification of amorphous calcium phosphate powder from each of these variables. This comparison has previously not been made and will provide clearer signals on methods of achieving better compaction. Powder and tablets were characterized by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy. Density was measured using the Archimedes method and viewed by scanning electron microscopy. Nanoindentation with a high-load head will show whether reports on the hardness and elastic modulus could be related to the density of the tablet.
