Modelling of Structural Masonry Groined Arch
Civil Engineering '05 : International Scientific Conference Proceedings 2005
Kaspars Bondars, Aleksandrs Korjakins

The present paper is devoted to investigation of increasing load-carrying capacity of masonry groined arch structures under reconstruction. A method of masonry material homogenisation has been used for calculating. The strength properties have been determined in accordance with local building standards the reconstructed masonry arch. Different optimal reinforcing variants of arch ribs have been elaborated using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The distributions of internal forces in the masonry arches have been obtained from the calculations and allow find a way increasing the arches’ load-bearing capacity. The present work is focused on establishing ways to reconstruct the different arch type structures and marking the possibilities to include FEM calculations in the national building standards.
