When the organization has multiple management systems and needs to comply with different standards the results can be the extensive paperwork and confusion. From a system approach point of view, it would be useful to unify all types of management systems within the organization into one system, because it reduces overlap, double work and decrease the bureaucracy. Among other advantages the author mentions the minimization of paperwork, improved business focus, better understanding among employees and other interested parties, cost savings, time and resource usage efficiency, simplification of internal and external audits, interrelation and cooperation between different units of the organization. In modern business environment the increasing pressure from external stakeholders, growing intensity and internationality of competition, rising level of customer requirements, stronger legal regulation and the increasing responsibilities within the organization demands for a new kind of management and leadership in efforts for the organization to operate more efficient. The companies face the challenge of securing compatibility between the management systems, to be able to adapt faster to the changes in the market, globalization, changes in regulation, consumer behaviour, customer needs and climate. IMS approach is intended to encourage organizations with more than one management system to recognize one holistic management system to enable them to manage their operations more effectively.
