It was found that in both variants of boriding, upon preliminary activation with the powder
composition, the morphology of the thermodiffusion layer changes, which is expressed in a
decrease in porosity, in particular in the subboride layer, and in a decrease in the needle-like
structure traditional for boriding. As a result of pre-treatment, the thickness of the diffusion
layer increases by 20 ... 50%, this is especially noticeable for high-temperature borating. The
proportion of the high-boron FeB phase in the layer increases, which indicates an
intensification of the diffusion and reaction stages in the metal.
