The scientific monograph is devoted to the role of bioresources in ensuring sustainable development. The demand for bioresources in the world is constantly increasing. The book allows to see bioresources from different perspective. It explains different aspects of determining the value of bioresources and their place in bioeconomy. The survival of the planet is closely linked to climate neutraltiy and resource circularity. This book paves the way for a new perspective on the exploitation of bioresources, including the formation of resource cascades, determination of the bioeconomic potential of bioresources, and introduction of biorefinery. The book analyses the existing and potential sources of bioresources, as well as finds many examples of cascade use of bioresources, and introduction of biorefinery. The book analyses the existing and potential sources of bioresources, as well as finds many examples of cascade use of bioresources, the analysis of which can serve as inspiration for action. The monograph defines bioresources indicators in bioeconomy by analysing their cross-links, creating a complex bioresources value index, and searching for their benchmark values. Particular attention is paid to environmental aspects, looking into the circulation of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in bioresources, assessing the balance of these elements. The monograph is based on research on the development of biotechonomics in Latvia and other countries. The purpose of publishing the monograph is to make the knowledge gained during the project reach the widest possible audience. The information presented in the monograph is useful as a learning tool for students at different levels and of various programmes as well as a guide for industry professionals and policy makers in agriculture, forestry and fishery.
