In the traction drive application instability can occur due to negative resistance phenomena. To increase stability active or passive damping methods are required. The paper shows importance of input filter damping in the traction drive application by using frequency domain analysis. It is proposed simple input filter structure that improves traditionally used passive resistors based damping circuits by offering better attenuation at higher frequencies. Proposed filter can be helpful in case of reduced capacitor value or optimized inductor with low winding resistance.
