This paper studies bifurcations and chaos in a buck converter under current mode control implemented in a hybrid microcontroller. The bifurcation diagram of the switching converter was obtained in a MATLAB environment using the discrete-time model of the switching converter with reference current chosen as the bifurcation parameter. Later, the exploration of the buck circuit in the MPLAB Mindi program showed a good agreement between the two models. The discovered region of robust chaos can potentially be used as an inherent chaotic oscillator in any device that contains a switching DC-DC converter.
