The active resistance of the overhead contact line of
public electric transport, such as trolleybus, causes a voltage drop
which must be compensated by taking a stronger current from the
substation to provide the necessary power to maintain a certain
speed of motion. Moreover, this resistance is variable because the
distance between the moving trolleybus and the substation
changes. The paper describes the calculation of the overhead
catenary resistance for the situation when only one trolleybus
moves in a catenary stage and for the situation when two
trolleybuses move in a common catenary stage. A method for
virtual real-time simulation of catenary power transmission using
voltage source elements was developed and described.
