Physically and in cyberspace, through a variety of information and communication technologies, the critical infrastructures are intricately intertwined with one another and heavily dependent on one another for a variety of reasons. What happens to one piece of infrastructure can have direct and indirect repercussions on other pieces of infrastructure, vast geographic regions, and economic activity on a national and global scale. The processes of recognizing, comprehending, and evaluating such interdependencies are fraught with major difficulties. Furthermore, the breadth and complexity of the most significant global infrastructures both substantially increase the difficulty of these tasks. The development of new communication technologies and networks of the next generation also brings with it a growth in the complexity of the problems that need to be solved in order to address critical infrastructure dependencies, related variables, and environmental factors. This paper focuses on the conceptual approach to analyzing the interdependencies of critical infrastructure through the prism of physical-network- cognitive levels. Additionally, it looks at how the basis of the technology of the Internet of Things can be useful to gain efficient control of data as well as address the interdependencies of critical infrastructure. This paper also shows the use case of implementing a control technique for data over a heating system based on the Internet of Things and how the different parts of the system depend on each other. Finally, the evaluation of the critical infrastructure interdependency is achieved through the control of data over the system.
