Nonlinear modes of operation have been observed in a range of switching power converters (SPC) for decades. Contrary to the standard approach to eliminate these regimes, we obtain the set of parameters that ensures the generation of robust chaotic oscillations of the converters. The current paper studies the effects of the subharmonic and chaotic modes on the main conversion characteristics of SPC. Numerical calculations and Spice simulations allow the detection of chaotic regions with the lowest influence on the output voltage ripples and conversion efficiency. It has been proved that with the appropriate choice of parameters, the SPC could be efficiently used as the source of chaos, ensuring the main functionality with acceptable performance characteristics.
