Structure of the Timber Processing Data Base
2008

As well as in many different areas, databases are being used in woodworking field. Even thought woodworking machinery databases is a quite common thing abroad, there is no similar database in Latvia. For this and other reasons mentioned further, at the Institute of Textile Materials Technologies and Design (Riga Technical University) Timber processing data base is being made. It would be useful for woodworking professionals, but the greatest concern is about its benefit for TTDI students. The structure for this database is not made based on machinery groups, as it is for analogous databases, but on technological phases of timber processing. There are three main phases – material cutting-out, material first stage and second stage processing, that divides in 10 technological operations; after them comes machinery groups and types. This is the most important searching path for this database, but it’s possible to search by company or by machine. This database is also connected to Timber jointing and wood construction database (RTU), where there will be links or reference showing which machine is proper for certain joint.
