The principles of counterchange the signs and motifs in patterned belts from Vidzeme, transformation of patterns and creation of new patterns The specific of three check border patterns from Vidzeme district Matisi is analyzed in this paper in order to illustrate the principles of counterchange the signs and motifs in patterned belts from Vidzeme. The principles of creation of belt patterns with counterchanged signs and motifs and specific of pattern making are analyzed. Detailed analysis of the peculiarities of the signs placed in the central pattern part is made – signs and motifs in conditionally positive and conditionally negative side of the belt are identified and cut out; determination of frequency of appearance and structure of the signs and motifs and groups of signs, the characteristics of spread and variety of types of signs (triangle shape half signs and diagonal slanting signs; mine and subordinated signs) and the sign adequacy to symmetry classes are followed. There is illustrated the connection of belt patterns and all-over pattern, creation of new patterns, transformation from belt patterns to all-over patterns by adding the mirror symmetrical copy (one or several) or by doing another transformation - decreasing systematically the pattern’s band height on both sides. Peculiarities of sign transformation by decreasing the high of the pattern band are discussed in this paper.
