Liposomes and other nanoparticles due to their unique properties have been widely studied as innovative materials for the transmembrane delivery. The physicochemical properties of parent lipids forming these carriers are also dependant from the structure of molecule and will affect the resulting properties of delivery systems. Previous we have demonstrated that polyfunctional amphiphiles on a base of 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHP) have been found to be active for DNA delivery and could be used as transmembrane delivery systems. The objective of this study was to synthesize novel N-substituted cationic 1,4-DHP derivatives and evaluate their monolayer and self-assembling properties and transfection activity, compare with N-unsubstituted 1,4-DHP.
