This paper presents a complete, modular, big-data-based security management (ISMS) platform for higher education organizations to deal with ever growing information system (IS) security threats. ISMS platform is based on open source platform and includes different modules to address possible problems with IS security. Modules are adaptable and should new threat appear, can be adapted/created to address new threat. ISMS platform's module can be a simple domain name system (DNS) check or ensemble of modules and artificial learning algorithms for accuracy improvements. The proposed system is real-time and uses Apache Kafka as core data streaming platform. This streaming platform is being used by all modules and ISMS to communicate and generate alerts or force infected device to disconnect from network. ISMS platform is used in Riga Technical University (RTU) and can be adapted by any large or medium organization.
