Supply chains are world wide practised systems, but in Latvia aren’t common. History of development of supply chain systems started from Antique Egypt. Nowadays supply process is highly developed and incorporated in Total Quality Management methodology. The main process in supply systems is transportation. Physical displacement of goods can be done with different modes of transport – by road, rail, sea or air. Several externals provide development for road transport. The main advantage for this mode of transport is ability to deliver goods “from doors to doors”. In Latvia transport enterprises continually developing, but the provided service level is not so high as for competitor from countries in Western Europe. There are opportunities to choose way of goods transportation management – to do oneself or to assign cargo expedition or transportation enterprises. Customer requirements increasing, it’s hard to make transportation of goods from deliver to customer by one mode of transport. Several types of combined transport are introduced.
