The main idea of this work is to bring together and study people's attempts to create fully or partially autonomous marine transport, which will be possible to use in transportation tasks, and then, using the analysis method, identify the best and worst sides of certain works and come to a common conclusion about the expediency and possibility of creating autonomous marine transport and its further operation. On the way to fulfilling this task, the history of the development of ship navigation was touched upon and studied, starting from the compass to modern satellite systems, dozens of works proposed by various authors were analyzed, among which there are both systems based on artificial intelligence and systems in which mathematical algorithms are the main method of solving this problem
