The Water Repellent Finishes for Cellulosic Textiles
2008
Ilze Baltiņa, Skaidrīte Reihmane

Water repellency is often necessary for special use textiles and clothing. Most popular currently are fluor containing repellents witch offer several companies unfortunately without chemical composition Lack of full information not allow compare effectiveness of chemicals. Three fluor containing water repellents are used for ascertaining of optimal composition and treatment technology of cotton fabric. Contact angle measurements, water and air permeability tests are performed for comparison of finishing effectiveness. The investigations show that all used chemicals (Aquastop FCN, Hydrophobol XAN, Oleophobol CO) are good repellents for cotton textile; most effective is Oleophobol CO. The optimal concentration of investigated chemicals is 20 ml/l. The textile air permeability is not changing with water repellent finish and kind of treatment. The long lasting saturation with repellent solution is not necessary.
