Adaptive Local Contrast Enhancement

In this paper a new method of image contrast enhancement is described. This method is based on local contrast enhancement by adaptive algorithm. The goals of this work was the development of more efficient method in comparison to existing methods, for simplifying the identification of automobile license plate and the identity of a person shown on the photograph. A formula of local contrast alternation from the previous works of the authors [1] was used as a base for the new method. An additional coefficient was added to the formula, with the help of which the degree of contrast enhancement in local areas of the image is changed. To define the necessary means of contrast enhancement, dispersion was used. The results describe the work of an algorithm without adaption, an existing adaptive algorithm and the proposed method. The results shown that the proposed method is more advanced than existing methods.
