The paper examines and evaluates the factors influencing the development of the domestic tourism industry in regional economies. The development of the tourism sector is associated with improvements in territorial infrastructure, social environment, and quality of life, as well as expansion of opportunities for regional economic development. Stimulating the tourism industry is one of the critical goals of economic policies in many countries. Therefore, studying the factors that drive the development of the domestic tourism industry in regional economies is highly relevant. The authors proposed an approach to determining the economic potential of the domestic tourism industry in regional economies. They also conducted econometric modeling of the factors affecting the tourism industry using examples from Russian regions. The modeling results show that the development of the tourism industry is linked to factors such as the region's economic potential, population size, income levels, and the quantity of automobile transport. Infrastructure factors, such as investment volumes, road lengths, and collective accommodation facilities, also play a significant role. This indicates that promising directions for state policy to support the tourism industry may involve focusing on regional economic development, improving the material well-being of the population, and promoting infrastructure development in the region.
