In the paper is shown the possibilities of raising the energy efficiency in Latvia district heating pipeline systems. There is made the analyses of the main part of heat transfer system – district main and dividing network and their construction variations, before 90’s, when all the pipelines were laid in concrete layers and insulated with mineral wool on construction site. The paper describes benefits of preinsulated district heating pipelines against the traditional ones on the basis of calculation of heat losses ,impossibility to detect the leakage placement, installation time needed, service costs, resistance to corrosion and heat transfer. The paper concludes with possible way to reduce heat losses, let the district heat network work effectively, to reduce the pollution of surround media.
