Two new structures – highway and pedestrian bridges are located on a national highway on the north entrance of the Riga city. The highway bridge over road A2 is designed as board-stayed system and have span structure completely made from lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC). Use of LWAC for new medium span board-stayed concrete bridge, allowed considerably decreases the slab height and ensures the target span length. For pedestrian bridge has been developed composite system using with LWA concrete filled steel pipes as the main girders and the normal weight concrete slabs for walkways. Both structures will be finished in summer 2004. The paper describes the design and construction of both bridges.
