E. Brückmann (1862 - 1943) finished the department of mechanics at the Riga Polytechnic in 1887. After graduating from the university he moved to Germany and worked as a constructor and engineer in factories which produced locomotives. From 1905 to 1930 he was the director of the "Berliner Maschinenbau Aktiengesellschaft". His activities were closely connected to the "Deutsche Maschinentechnische Gesellschaft" that was founded in 1881 and where such famous persons worked as Rudolf Diesel, Friedrich Alfred Krupp, Carl Friedrich Siemens. E. Brückmann took part in the prodection of locomotives, their further improvements, and published many scientific articles on this subject.
