Carl Friedrich Bornhaupt and the Riga Polytechnic

Those who initiated the foundation of the Riga Polytechnic applied to the well experienced pedagogue C. F. Bornhaupt to develop and formulate the project. He finished the job in 1857, but it was not implement. After the discussion of the project the authorities in Riga applied with request of developing a technical university to T. S. Franke from Hannover. C. F. Bornhaupt was the only pedagogue amongst the founders of the university. In 1828 he has founded a privat school. At the Riga Polytechnic he was the director of the "Preschool" (1862 to 1881) where future students were prepared for theit studies. C. F. Bornhaupt was member of the Russian Association of Archaeologists, member of the Riga Association of Natural Sciences, he was the first Inspector of the first museum in Riga called "Dommuseum" because it was located in the building of the former monastery which was the part of the cathedral complex.
