Anthropometric Features of Childrenswear Sizing
2009

Since 2004 EU childrenswear producers and retailers have to meet EN 13402-3 requirements defining preferred numbers of primary and secondary body dimensions. Garment size tables can be compiled from this open sizing system with inbuilt flexibility, considering body shape and proportions for any one subpopulation group that might differ significantly. Several more detailed East and West European childrenswear sizing systems have been previously used in Latvia. Now they should be coordinated with EN 13402-3 sizing and labelling specifications to expand original 25 combinations of the primary and secondary dimensions. Originally standardized intervals can cover only 22% of bust spun and 8% of waist spun within 177 ternary measurements arranged into respective 7-10 years old girls height groups {122, 128, 134, 140, 146}. Only 40% of the same measurements are classified as normal height-to-bust binary measurements following EN 13402-3 specifications. Unreasonable number of height-to-waist sizes can be reduced by using adjustable waistband so widening proposed waist intervals by garment design. Thus flexible EN 13402 sizing enables multiform consumer satisfaction introducing various height, chest/bust and waist interval combinations.
