The paper considers the possibilities of stability loss in the power systems of Baltic countries and
the corresponding preventive measures. The automatic protection complexes used in the
interconnected power systems are considered in detail. It is shown that emergency situations can
be of a local as well as of a global character. To prevent the global accidents the coordinated
operational tripping measures in the power systems of different countries are required. For this
purpose, a control centre for a united power system is needed, which could coordinate the actions
of preventive and operational automatics.
