Actual Problems of Land Politics in Latvia

Land use in Latvia is influenced also by global tendencies like the climate changes, growing demand for alternative energy resources. That’s why within the framework of land policy is necessary to improve the planning process of territory development, necessary more effective to use the accessible financial instruments, to improve knowledge of land owners about the sustainable land use and necessary to make in balance land demand for land development for different purposes. These conditions indicate actual problems in the planning of territorial development and improvement of it. The target of research are to clarify and evaluate the opinion of state and municipal officials, representatives from public about the territory planning, land acquisition and compensation issues and as a result will be drafted proposals for improvement of land policy in Latvia. The research consists of: • questionnaire of the state and municipal officials and representatives from private business; • by questionnaire is clarified the opinion of respondents about the managing process of territory planning, about land acquisition for territory development and land compensation issues; • conclusions and recommendations.
