Pragmatic Aspects of Environment-Related Terminology Formation and Translation
Vārds un tā pētīšanas aspekti: rakstu krājums. 13.sēj. (II) 2009
Marina Platonova

The paper focuses on the pragmatic aspects of environment-related terminology formation and translation. The author of the paper examines some models of technical term formation that may best achieve pragmatic equivalence in translation, which is defined as the difference between information that is stated explicitly and information inferred from the context in the corresponding source and target language texts. The models of meaning formation described in the article can be used to achieve equivalence at the level of a separate term/sentence/utterance, as well as to comprehend the meaning of the whole text. The paper also observes some challenges associated with terminology translation in the environment-related texts.
