The chemical structure of the low-molecular birch lignin, isolated from the hydrolyzate of model wood thermohydrolysis has been established. A pronounced amiphilic character of the isolated lignin, which governs its high tendency to self-organizing in water and water-salt solutions, and its pronounced surface-active properties at the water-air and the liquid-liquid interface have been shown
