Abstract The given paper deals with power factor correction circuits in the context of improvement of power supply grids. The concepts and key elements of SmartGrids and MicroGrids are discussed in the beginning. Then their possible configurations are compared (planned) and DC MicroGrids are emphasized. Power factor correctors for such MicroGrids are experimentally compared and the most promising solution is chosen.
