Abstract In this work an alternative method to synthesize β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) for use as starting material for apatite cement (bone graft substitute) has been investigated. Two β-TCP synthesis methods are compared – high temperature synthesis (1) and wet chemical precipitation of calcium deficient hydroxyapatite with following calcination in temperatures under 1000°C.
