Latvian dolomite has been widely used for construction of Medieval Heritage buildings located in Riga and its surrounding. Identification of dolomite lithological morphological types gives significant culturally-historical information, and allows finding the most appropriate substitute material for restoration of the given Cultural Heritage Monument. Methodology for identification of lithological morphological type is based on structurally genetic classification system used in geological investigations taking into account regulations for documentation and investigation of Heritage Monuments, and investigation methodology used in mineralogy and petrography. Elaborated data base involves five lithological morphological types, which are characterised by macroscopic properties (fabric, texture, and colour), physical-mechanical properties (compression resistance, salt resistance, porosity) and petrographic description of thin sections. Recognition and identification methodology of Latvian Upper Devonian dolomite lithological types has been elaborated and approbate and is recommended to be used in practice as non-destructive preliminary investigation method for rocks used in Heritage Monuments. Results showed that historically for construction of stone buildings in Latvia predominantly mechanically resistant marble-like dolomite type was selected. It could be assumed that the qualitative physical and mechanical properties of this lithological dolomite type were appreciated by the craftsmen
