Mental Steadiness of Sportsmen and Personal Traits

The study investigates the influence of personal character traits on the indicators of psychical reliability. The main personality qualities according to their relation to such components of psychical reliability as stability and noise immunity, competitive emotional stability, auto regulation, motivation and overall indicator of stability have been found. The work also shows a comparatively equal distribution of different stressor types. It should be mentioned that the most frequent phenomena are high indicators of overall sensitivity towards stressors. The main components of psychical reliability in sportsmen have been determined. They are competitive emotional stability and auto regulation. The most frequent characteristics of sportsmen-boxers have been disclosed: they can be “calm, restrained, emotionally open” as well as “active, restrained, controllable”. Considerable minimization of the closeness of the correlation bonds depending on the sporting skills has also been also estimated. It should be underlined that the higher the proficiency level, the lower the influence of the personal character traits on the manifestation of psychical reliability. The proposition is to take into account specific components of psychical reliability and some personal traits directed at the neutralization of competitive stress factors which can considerably raise the effectiveness of performance at important competitions.
