Types of land use are changing by the natural processes and human economic activities. In Latvia on every 1th of January State Land Service draw up review of land (land balance), where is summarized information about changes in types of land use. Because land balance do not fully demonstrate changes in types of land use, the purpose of research was to determine the actual changes of types of land use in particular administrative area of Latvia, and to analyze changes that occurred during 15 years period. Area of local municipality Sēja was chosen as a subject of research, because in the author's opinion, in this area the changes of typs of land use have happened mainly in natural processes. Types of land use shall be determined and updated by performing a cadastral survey. Information about real properties where repeated survey in period between 2006 and 2008 was realised, were taken from Cadastre information system. New data of types of land use was compared with the previous survey data. Totaly there were analyzed 102 real properties with total area 1185.5 ha. Results of research showed that the main reason of the repeated survey (75% of cases) is because of land subdivision. In local municipality Sēja area of forests, bushes, swamps, land under water, roads and yards is increased, but area of agricultural land and other unagricultural land is decreased. Area of agricultural land in local municipality Sēja gradually decreases. Farming is no longer considered as a priority and source of livelihood, thereby area of grassland and virgin territories, fields, overgrown with bushes is increasing, while the bushes are becoming to forest, some areas are becoming bogged up. New water reservoirs are arranged, new building are built up, areas under yards are increasing, therefore area for new roads are required. The research showed: if the interval between first survey and repeated survey is longer, the breakdown of changes of types of land use is greater.
