Janina Jasena – Adolphi has been born to a Lithuanian family in Riga. She studied at the University of Latvia architecture and got her diploma 1939. While she studied she took actively part in the activities of the Lithuanian student fraternity “Viltys” which existed at the University of Latvia and in the association of the students of architecture. Already as a student she took part in the construction of some buildings. One of the best known examples of a building where she took part is the building of the nowadays 13. preschool of the town of Riga „Ābecītis” in Altоnаvas street No.1. J. Jasena – Adolphi took part in the drawings of the building of the preschool under the guidance of the architect Osvalds Tīlmanis in the years 1937 to 1939.This Kindergarden has been opened)inaugurated in 1939 and after renovation it is working again since 2007.His article about “the popularity of architecture” is well known, it was published in the journal of architecture “Latvijas Architectūra” (1940), in which she is speaking about contemporary architecture, she criticizes some architects who do not want to go with modern times. The future architect who she will be, worked as a teacher at a Lithuanian School in Riga in 1934 to 1940 and at the high school No 9 in 1940 to 1942.. At the time of the World War II she married her German husband and left Latvia. She lived in Germany until 1990, her son became an architect too.
