Non-Traditional Reinforcement for Concrete Composites - State of the Art
2007

Main building material - concrete - is strong in comprlession, but weak in tension. The tensile strength of concrete is only about 10% (for conventional concretes) of its compressive strength. To compensate concrete's low tensile strength, concrete members are reinforced to carry tensile loads. Mechanically two different reinforcement acting mechanisms can be recognized.
