In today’s global environment many different indicators influence the performance in the market of higher educational institution and its development. One of most valuable indicators for a university is the commercialization of scientific elaborations. The authors identify different factors what influence cooperation initiatives among higher education institutions, technologic developments and business. Different scenarios had been analyzed by the authors for evaluation of commercial capacity of innovation within the university. By analysis of the case of Latvia the authors would like to show example how to bring together education, technologies and business. The authors employed different research methods, both qualitative and quantitative: surveys, grouping analysis etc. The theoretical and methodological background of the research is formed by scientific researches and publications, publications from mass media and professional literature, statistics from legal institutions as well as information collected by the authors during the survey.
