The project of the European Regional Development Fund “Elaboration of Innovative Low Temperature Composite Materials from Local Mineral Raw Materials” is aimed at developing three low temperature products: dolomite ceramics, geopolymer and hybrid binder, using Latvian dolomite and clay resources. In the framework of the project, the geological investigation was carried out in order to evaluate conformity and availability of local raw material. In the current research, the results of preliminary evaluation were summarized based on the previously stated criteria for raw materials and the study of literature. Systematic analysis of Latvian dolomite and clay deposits and availability of resources (according to data on 01/01/2011) was performed. The groups of raw materials with comparative properties according to the geological age of related deposits were outlined. It has been stated that local clay and dolomite resources meet the appropriate quality and reserves for production of low temperature composite materials in Latvia. According to the geological age of deposits, the main amount of resources (more than 90%) is provided by Quaternary clay deposits and Upper Devonian Daugava formation dolomite deposits. For the elaboration of low temperature geopolymers, the defined clay deposits were recommended. It was suggested to include Triassic clay resources as raw materials for geopolymers in order to promote the detailed geological investigation of these deposits with possible further practical use. In the framework of the study it was confirmed that the production of composite materials using dolomite flour as a raw material could promote the processing of dolomite siftings and enhance the rational use of dolomite resources.
