Interrelationships between Competition Results and Psychological Skills in Luge Sport

Luge is one of the sports where Latvia has achieved highresults on the global stage. Latvian national team athletes both adults and juniors often compete for the first places in the world class competitions, although a higher consistency of results would be desirable. Alongside excellent competition results there are some starts where serious luger mistakes appear. This points at athletes' preparation issues including the insufficient application of psychological skills during competition. To evaluate the meaning psychological skills in each athletes' competition performance, a research was conducted with the aim to evaluate the connection between luge athletes' competition results and psychological skills. The research is based on reflections about the integrating effect of athletes' different preparation methods, which means that one or several athletes' higher level preparation methods' might be insufficient if other preparations have susceptible imperfections. Only by equally paying attention to all preparation methods including psychological readiness will result in positive mutual influence on athletes' achievements in competitions.
