In this paper, solution to the problem of introductory programming education at Riga Technical University is considered. At the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, the main courses of student training are courses in programming languages and environments. Their contents, forms and methods of teaching must correspond to the contemporary state of programming languages, methods and technologies, as well as to the perspectives of their development. The paper provides a description of changes in content and method of teaching the course “Algorithmization and Programming of Solutions” offered to first year students at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology
